Gallery of Solidarity

Following the 1979 earthquake that shook Montenegro, the Association of Fine Artists, which was in existence at the time, undertook a mission to gather artwork from the entire region of the former Yugoslavia. The Gallery of Solidarity, a very valuable art fund, was thereafter created in Kotor.
The Square of Arms’ museum-gallery area underwent renovation in 1980 to make room for the Gallery and the Museum of the Revolution. Despite being set aside specifically for this special space, it was never used in that way. The gallery fund had been placed and relocated about Kotor in the span of time.
Over 400 pieces are included in the Gallery of Solidarity’s fund, which is continually expanded by new gifts and donations.
The gallery’s art collection is a diverse group in terms of aesthetic preferences, thematic motifs, and range of techniques. The collection was initially multinational, with authors from the USA, Poland, and Romania donating their works alongside authors from the former Yugoslavian states. Almost the whole Gallery of Solidarity collection was shown to the Kotor and Montenegrin cultural audience between 1992 and 2011 as part of Museums Kotor’s fourteen thematic and study exhibitions.
