Although there are numerous ethno communities worth viewing and visiting, I will only highlight a few that are unique yet still appealing. The first combines luxury and history, while the second provides a beautiful traditional setting in which you may experience both the past and the present at the same time. I am confident that you will be astounded by the nature and people who have lived here for generations, building their future on the legacy bequeathed to them by their forefathers.

St. George

Situated between the rugged slopes of Mount Lovćen lies the charming village of Njeguši, home to the delightful ethno-village of St. George. This hidden gem has been welcoming visitors since 2018, and each year, it seems to draw more and more people tranquility. Besides its luxurious atmosphere, what really captivates is its stunning location.

Activities

Lovćen, a mountain rich in flora and fauna, has been known as a national park. Explore both its natural wonders and cultural landmarks.

Orjen, the highest peak of the Dinaric Alps! You can consider reaching the village of Crkvica. Historically, the village was home to Austro-Hungarian fortifications that left a deep mark on our history. There are many interesting remains of old constructions devastated by the time that has passed.

Njegoš’s Mausoleum, which was built in honor of Petar II Petrović Njegoš. You have to pass 461 steps to reach it, but it is worth visiting. The Mausoleum keeps the remains of one of the greatest spiritual and secular leaders, guarded by two caryatids within the chapel.

Location:  It is 15 km away from Cetinje and 20 km from Kotor. If you are arriving by plane, it is 25 km away from Tivat Airport, with organized free transportation to and from the accommodation.

Milogora

At an altitude of 1,450 meters, on the Piva Mountain, lies the ethno-village of Milogora. The well-known national restaurant Milogora has been opened for fifteen years and is recognizable for its numerous specialties of homemade cuisine, which offer tourists a special sense and authentic taste of this region. You will not regret it if you decide to come here, and the hosts will do their best to achieve uniqueness, as here, throughout the summer, beer is offered chilled in the snow.

Activities

The hosts of the ethno-village of Milogora ensure their guests are always entertained, so they offer various activities to fill their free time. We are quite sure that you will find what suits you, and the following activities are available:

Horseback riding in untouched nature – The ethno-village has a professional and modernly equipped destination for school and tourist riding. The horses are extremely well trained, and visitors are provided with the highest quality instructors.

Rafting through the Tara River Canyon – The hosts recommend trying this adrenaline sport that will leave no one indifferent. The unforgettable and incredible nature will do its best to take your breath away. Safety is guaranteed, and all skippers are licensed and highly experienced.

Fishing – The Piva Lake is extremely clean and rich in flora and fauna. The most common types of fish are trout and grayling.

Safari jeep tours – You can enjoy the enchanting landscapes of Montenegro by off-road vehicles. Several excursions are offered in off-road vehicles to locations such as Trsa, Pišče, Lokvica, Prutaš, Todorev do, Dobri do, Sedlo, Žabljak, Štouc, Mala Crna Gora, Sušica Canyon, Nedajno, and again Trsa. This tour is called the Durmitor Ring and is one of the most famous and amazing.

Boating on the Piva Lake – It used to be river Piva long time ago, but today it is artificial but beautiful lake. Boat rides and sightseeing of the beautiful nature, as well as swimming in the lake, are offered.

Hiking and mountaineering – With a professional guide, the hosts of the ethno-village offer incredible excursions through the surrounding natural beauties. Visit the most beautiful parts of Piva Mountain, all the way to the Sušica River Canyon and its source, Milogora, Sušica Lake, and Ljeljenak.

Location: If you find yourself on the regional road Plužine – Žabljak, at the twelfth kilometer, you will come across the village called Trsa, where the ethno-village of Milogora is located. The ethno-village is about 41 km away from the mountain town of Žabljak.

Ethno-Village Adventures

Montenegro is rich in offerings in rural tourism, although this branch of tourism is still not widely known around the world. One of the highlights of ethno-tourism in Montenegro is the opportunity to visit traditional villages where time seems to stand still. In these villages, hospitality is the primary trait of local hosts. Visitors are invited to try traditional dishes like lamb cooked under a peak (a bell-shaped dome) and homemade rakija (fruit brandy). Here is an overview of several villages:

• Nevidio Eco Village: Located in Pošćenje, offers a wealth of activities such as cycling, hiking, and rock climbing. Stone cottages provide comfortable accommodation.

 Location: It is situated not far from the main road Risan – Žabljak, near the center of Šavnik.

• Katun Goleš: At an altitude of 1,600 m, this complex offers an authentic mountain living experience with stunning views and gastronomic delights.

 Location: It is 18 km away from the center of Kolašin.

• Vranjak Eco Village: Traditional-style cottages located on the border of the Biogradska Gora National Park, offer various activities such as hiking, cycling, and horseback riding.

 Location: It is located 15 km from the center of Kolašin, on the E65 road towards Mojkovac.
