Dave McKean, a world-renowned comic artist with a career spanning almost four decades, is confirmed as the eighth special guest for the 17th Herzegovina Comic Festival (HSF) slated for September 1st to 6th in Boka Kotorska.
Over the course of its past 16 festivals and eight Comic Weekend editions, the Herzegovinian comic festival has garnered global acclaim. It has attracted leading figures from diverse domains such as visual arts, comics, design, writing, photography, film directing, and music. Among these luminary figures is the legendary Dave McKean, a visual arts superstar who skillfully blends all these fields into his work, states the HSF announcement.
Other special guests for this edition include Ji Yang from China, Marko Mastraca from Italy, Dane Dimat from France, Francis Portela from Spain, Zoran Smiljanić from Slovenia, and Dag Brethvajt and Zoe Torogud from Great Britain. Together with roughly seventy other distinguished returning artists, these guests will offer an unparalleled six-day experience for art enthusiasts in September. Visitors will have the opportunity to visit exhibitions for free, receive drawings, and participate in promotions, lectures, drawing workshops, and top concerts.
McKean’s illustrious journey began in New York in 1986, where he met Neil Gaiman, one of the world’s most popular writers. Their collaboration resulted in celebrated works such as “Instruments of Violence” and “Black Orchid”. McKean further achieved recognition for illustrating covers for the hit series Hellblazer and the acclaimed graphic novel “Batman: Arkham Asylum”. He also crafted covers for Gaiman’s iconic Sandman and its spin-offs.
The HSF organizers express their excitement and honor at hosting Dave McKean, reflecting the festival’s prestigious standing in the global comic industry and the city of Herceg Novi’s popularity among the world’s greatest artists.
