Blazo always wants to fly Montenegro Airlines to get to Montenegro, and the best connection is in Paris (San Francisco to Paris, Paris to Tivat). However, the return flight requires staying overnight in Paris, and Blazo thinks if you are going to stay one night, you might as well stay several nights and see something.
What Blazo wanted to see was Mont St. Michel, which he had visited 35 or so years earlier. It is noted for being an island at high tide but a peninsula at low tide. Of course, now there is a causeway so that you can always get back and forth.
St. Malo is also on the sea and enjoys tides similar to Mont. St. Michel. What we neglected to do was take two pictures of each scene in St. Malo, one when the tide was in and one when it was out. The left picture here is with the tide out. The museum in the background is inaccessible when the tide is in. The middle picture is of Chateaubriand, who was born in St. Malo. The right picture shows what we were doing when we should have been taking more pictures.
(This area is also noted for "pre-salted" lamb. The sheep graze on grass that is frequently submerged in salt water, and presumably you can taste the salt in the meat.)
Dinan is a small town that has been there since medieval days. It has many picturesque buildings. Leftmost is the fortress. Middle is an old house which has settled a little crookedly. Right is the city wall.
Paris was pretty much the same as previous years. Left: the most attractive bridge across the Seine, the Alexander III Bridge. 2nd left: Mary in front of the Seine River. 2nd right: Mary in front of the Paris opera house (incidentally close to a big department store). Right: Blazo in front of the Eiffel Tower at night.
