Blazo and Mary in front of the
Lighthouse of Columbus, a museum built
for the 500th anniversary of the discovery of the new world.
This building appears very heavy from ground level. From
up high, you can see that it is in the shape of a cross.
The museum exhibits are organized by country and some seem to
have no relationship to Columbus. What is related, for example,
some of Columbus' writing, is copies, not originals.
Columbus' tomb in the Lighthouse of Columbus. There are four
soldiers guarding the tomb. There is some doubt whether the bones
are actually those of Columbus.
Exterior of Diego Columbus' residence. This is in the colonial city,
a section of Santo Domingo that has been preserved and/or restored. Diego
was Christopher Columbus' son.

Mary and Blazo on
Juan Dolio beach in front of the Coral Costa Caribe Resort Hotel.
Not the world's best beach,
not very long, shallow, with some rocks and plant life in addition to sand.
The water was not too clear. An artificial reef minimized any wave action.
This was an all-inclusive resort with pretty good food, various sports equipment,
and a nightly amateur show similar to the Club Med format.
